Taleem Project Taleem, our latest initiative has emerged out of
the need expressed by a group of illiterate young women
during an informal discussion. These young women and
girls, who belong to a neighboring village, hail from a
marginalized minority group and had never attended any
formal schooling.
On June 9, 2008, the
Taleem centre came into existence to cater to the
educational needs of the community especially women and
girls. MBT proactively stepped in to establish a
Taleem centre in Kakrala Barat Ghar for a group of
20 women and girls of Kakrala village. Since its
inception there has been a steady increase in the
enrollment of the girls. At present, the three Taleem
Centres are catering to the educational needs of over 70
girls.
The purpose behind launching Project Taleem
is to bring about tangible changes in the educational
indicators of Kakrala, a village that has been left far
behind in all the indicators of growth and development,
especially health and education. Since lack of
educational opportunities is at the root cause of almost
all the ills plaguing the community, Moser Baer Trust
through ‘Project Taleem’ aspires to bring about a
positive difference in their lives.
We believe that
education is not merely a tool to make women literate
rather it is a means to empower them. For this our
literacy classes are supplemented with various
components like life skills training, recreational cum
educational visits, exposure visits to different
organisations and strong networking with parents through
home visits to bring about holistic development. A
progress-tracking tool has also been developed with the
intention of keeping a continuous record of each girl’s
performance which will be shared with parents in the
‘Parent-Teachers Meeting’ on a monthly basis. Apart from
raising the literacy levels, the past nine months at the
centre has brought about a remarkable positive change in
the lives and personalities of these girls.
