launch of smile on wheel

On 18th of June 2011, Moser Baer Trust launched its comprehensive health programme “Smile on Wheels” in collaboration with Smile Foundation. This mobile hospital unit is equipped with all diagnostic services and is an extension of its existing community based OPDs, which were earlier confined to general checkups. Due to inaccessibility and lack of quality health services, this programme is envisioned to complement the existing health services to provide access to these services to the needy. This partnership project was launched by Ms. Sheetal Verma, Chief Development Officer, Gautam Budh Nagar , Mrs. Nita Puri, Director (HR), Moser Baer India Limited and Mr. H.N. Sahay, Director (Operations), Smile Foundation in village Begumpur, Greater NOIDA

Acknowledging the importance of the programme, Ms Sheetal Verma, said, “This Mobile Health Unit being operated by Moser Baer Trust will not only address the medical programme but also bring about a change in the way villagers will look at their own well being.”

The Mobile Health Unit (MHU) will offer both preventive and curative healthcare services along with diagnostic facilities to the villagers at nominal ‘revolving’ cost; specialized services for reproductive and adolescent health, special services like eye care, dental care and skin etc through specialized camps and effective referral network systems for managing serious and emergency cases.

Through the MHU, the Trust plans to reach out to rural and marginalized communities including women and children in about 37 villages of Gautam Budh Nagar and is likely to impact about 20,000 to 25,000 people in a year. We are thankful to all our partners including Smile Foundation, district health department, Gram Panchayats, associates from Moser Baer and we look forward to your continued support and encouragement in future as well.

Inaugural of Aakar and convocation

Inauguration of Aakar - the Livelihood center & Valedictory Ceremony

Another milestone has been added in the history of Moser Baer Trust, with the inauguration of Aakar - the Livelihood centre, on 22nd April 2010. 73 children from Digital Literacy Mission programme and 19 girls from Vocational training centre were felicitated by our Trustee, Ms. Nita Puri. The event began with the overview of the Trust activities by Mr. VB Lal, DGM- HR. This centre has been launched with the objective of providing sustainable livelihood to the marginalized women as per their capacities and need of the area. It has been assessed by MBT that the nearby export houses contract out the work. The contractors get this work done by the women of the community and the major part of theirs earning is pocketed by them, while women get a pittance for their hard work. Considering the current situation of the area, MBT established direct link with the export houses and now acts as a link between them and the workers. Thereby, minimizing the involvement of contractors and promoting fair trade. This is the first centre under the big umbrella of “Aakar”, and MBT is intended to promote such centres at various locations as per the need in the years to come. The gram panchayat has provided space to run this centre, thereby, making this centre a community owned institution. MBT would make efforts for replicating the same model in other areas as well.

Then after, peer leaders of project Nayee Roshni staged a play on “Importance of girls child education”, which was based on their own account of experiences in the community. The idea of having them perform on the stage was also to give them some exposure to stage performance. They tried to project through the play that girls are capable of changing their destinies if backed with education.

Ms. Kulshrestha, Head CSR, launched the first Newsletter of MBT. She acknowledged the efforts of the team for bringing this newsletter out. She accepted that creativity is much required in the developing sectors too for the people to be able to use this creativity as a tool for metamorphosing their lives and community.
